Vert de Venise Contemporary Art is proud to take part in Venice Glass Week 2025. We present a new cycle of work by Katia Margolis, 'A Woman is an Island', celebrating the dual strength and vulernability of womanhood through the medium of glass.
Installations and other works by Margolis include 'A Woman is an Island', 'Victory', 'Glass Islands', 'Homage to Carlo Scarpa', 'Splintered Bloom', 'Out of Prism' and 'Shatterproof'.
Katia Margolis: "Fragility and firmness, lightness and weight, the ability to conduct and refract light, sharp edges and smooth surfaces — all these material properties of glass acquire a conceptual philosophical meaning for me within this cycle of work devoted to women and womanhood. In addition to pieces made in collaboration with Oscar Zanetti and Diego Vio of Murano, my work also includes pieces made from broken shards of glass that I rescued from the foundry. These reincarnated fragments do, I feel, tell an important and compelling story. Violence, war and injustice break the whole world into shards; vision itself is fractured; the optics we use to look at things are broken and fragmented. Amid this wreckage, physical, visual and conceptual recycling of what seems to have been destroyed is an imperative. Bandaging, healing and renewal may well pave a path to a more sustainable future, to a new sense and vision of beauty - a vision of rediscovery and redemption."
