Roger de Montebello was born in 1964. He is a Franco-American painter based in Venice. Having studied art at the Facultad de Bellas Artes in Seville (1984-85) he went on to study painting, art history and philosophy at Harvard where he graduated in 1988. His first exhibition was in Paris in 1992, the same year he set up his atelier in Venice where he now lives and works.
In 2011 he participated in the Venice Biennale with a solo exhibition, Montebello-Megachromia. He has exhibited regularly in Paris, London and Geneva since then. Highlights include a one-man show at the Museo Correr curated by Jean Clair and Gabriella Belli (2017) and an exhibition of his Porte delle Terese cycle at the Espace Muraille gallery in Geneva. In 2022 and 2023 Montebello exhibited twice in Paris. One show was curated by Guido Brivio, who has published a book on his work; the other was introduced by Antonella Boralevi.
